Famous Tales and Legends
Several stories and legends have immortalized the Cornish pixie. One legend about pixies is set in the vicinity of Truro. The story recounts the tale of a young boy who strayed from his home and ventured into a small valley. When he failed to return, the villagers searched desperately for him. Three days later, the boy reappeared exactly where he was last seen. He was unharmed, but had no recollection of being gone. He explained that he had followed a bird into the forest, where he found himself in darkness. Thinking they were stars at first, he soon realized they were actually tiny beings - the pixies. They guided him to a cave filled with treasures and offered him honey to eat before singing him to sleep. When he woke up, he was back in the valley.
Another well-known story involves pixies leading blindfolded travelers to a cliff edge. The pixies save them at the last moment, revealing their prankster nature.
